Climate Change – Creating Dynamic Plumbing Trade Growth

The escalating effects of climate change, coupled with unprecedented population growth and urbanization, are rapidly changing the face of the plumbing trade. Recent water shortages worldwide have dominated the news, and it has become evident that the challenge of providing clean water for everyone will only increase in the future. It’s estimated that by 2040 we will be facing a global water deficit of 40%, with depressed economies suffering the brunt of the disaster.

Amidst this burgeoning crisis, the increasingly crucial role of plumbing professionals is becoming apparent. Certified plumbers have the knowledge to access clean water sources and the practical skills to provide the water we use daily for drinking, washing, and even waste removal. Plumbers are an integral part of our economic stability and public health as well as environmental sustainability.

Plumbing professionals face and will continue to face several challenges, many of which are related to location. Some urban areas, for instance, are plagued with aging infrastructure and water systems, resulting in health risks and potential difficulties in providing clean water to the population at large.

One of the most essential functions of the plumbing profession, as we advance, will be ‘green plumbing,’ an integral part of maintaining future sustainable communities. We need plumbers to lead the way in implementing water conservation methods consistent with sound environmental considerations. Plumbers will require forward-thinking training to prepare them to inform and advise customers on the benefits of water conservation and energy efficiency and the most appropriate cost-effective appliances that meet these criteria.

We are quite literally counting on plumbers to be champions of conservation and the environment. Their prevue extends from caring for our water, solar hot water technology, and water-efficient technology to septic and wastewater treatment systems, stormwater and sewage, rainwater harvesting, and much, much more.

The plumbing profession is growing and expanding into new, exciting specialties critical to clean water accessibility and the environment. For plumbing professionals, there is no better time to acquire advanced certification.
