This article is an effort to communicate the process to qualify and complete each of the 6 Star Mastery Certifications.
STAR Commercial Refrigeration Mastery Certification
A STAR Commercial Refrigeration Mastery Certification applicant is a qualified individual who can exhibit mastery knowledge of the trade and will be skilled and experienced in operations, planning, blueprint reading, safety, and the practical installation, repair, and service of commercial refrigeration systems. It is required that the STAR Commercial Refrigeration Mastery examination applicant be a technician who has completed a UA training program or equivalent, and/or has three (3) years of experience in the industry. The passing score is 83%. STAR Fire Sprinklerfitting Mastery Certification
A STAR Fire Sprinklerfitting Mastery Certification applicant is a qualified individual who can exhibit mastery of the trade and will be skilled and experienced in operations, planning, blueprint reading, safety, and the practical installation, repair, and servicing of fire sprinkler systems. It is required that the STAR Mastery test applicant be a technician who has completed a UA training program or equivalent, and/or has five years of experience in the industry. The passing score is 70%. STAR HVACR Mastery Certification
A STAR HVACR Master Certification applicant is a qualified individual who can exhibit mastery of the trade and will be skilled and experienced in operations, planning, blueprint reading, safety, and the reasonable installation, repair, and service of HVACR systems. It is required that the STAR HVACR Mastery examination applicant is a technician who has completed a UA training program or equivalent, and/or has five years of experience in the industry. STAR Steamfitting-Pipefitting Mastery Certification
A STAR Steamfitting-Pipefitting Mastery Certification applicant is a qualified individual who can exhibit mastery of the trade and will be skilled and experienced in fabricating, preparing, rigging, and installing pipes, tubing, and equipment by following plans, specifications, SOP’s and standard pipefitting practices to comply with local and jurisdictional codes and help to complete the job/project safely, on schedule and to the satisfaction of the customer. It is required that the STAR Pipefitting Mastery examination applicant be a technician who has completed a UA training program or equivalent, and/or has five years of experience in the industry. The passing score is 82%. STAR Plumbing Mastery Certification
A STAR Plumbing Mastery certification applicant is a qualified individual who can exhibit mastery of the trade and will be skilled and experienced in the design, installation, maintaining, servicing, and repairing of water systems; drainage, waste, and vent systems; stormwater systems; fuel gas systems; water heating systems; and specialty systems, utilizing knowledge of national, state, and local plumbing codes to protect the health and welfare of the general public. It is required that the STAR Plumbing Mastery examination applicant be a plumber who has completed a UA training program or equivalent, and/or has five years of experience in the industry. STAR Residential - Light Commercial HVAC Mastery Certification
An applicant should possess knowledge of Installation, alteration, repair, and service of HVAC systems including the design, construction, and maintenance of all air handling systems,
ductwork systems, control systems, and piping for heating and cooling systems in residential and light commercial settings. It is required that the applicant has completed a UA training
program or equivalent, and/or has three (3) years of experience in the industry. The passing score for this examination is 80.3%. The request form is available at
