The National Inspection Testing and Certification Corporation (NITC) is the premiere third party provider of personnel certification in the piping related industries including, but not limited to, plumbing and HVACR. NITC’s ISO certification allows them to certify personnel for Journey and Mastery Levels, Medical Gas, and more.

Adhering to ANSI 17024 Standards, the meticulously developed NITC examinations are based on the model codes that relate to a particular specialty and are designed to test knowledge of industry standards and general practices for that specialty.

The Certification Examinations are designed by a certification subcommittee consisting of recognized experts in their respective fields. In accordance with industry best practices, NITC is certified to the ISO 9001 QMS as part of a ANSI 17024 requirement, and rigorously updates their Certification Examinations on a regular basis to reflect technical industry advancements and all changes in codes, standards, and procedures that affect health and safety conditions.

Examination updates are subject to multiple accuracy checks as well as approval by the certification subcommittee. Exams are tested for efficacy in accordance with accepted ANSI/ANAB 17024 standards or test development and exam administration standards.

Applicants wishing to take a Certification Examination in their specialty should submit their application which will verify eligibility via USPS, e-mail, or FAX, and will then receive from NITC information on fees, scheduling, procedures, locations, dates, guidelines, etc. The application outlines a code of conduct the applicant must adhere to in order to maintain certification.

The exams may be administered in written form (with or without a proctor) or completed by computer and may be open or closed book depending on exam specific guidelines. Examinees who wish to take advantage of the computer testing option may schedule an exam at any one of 340 PSI centers at a time convenient for them. The computer test and written test contain identical multiple-choice questions. All individuals proctoring the testing sessions have been approved by the NITC Board of Directors.

NITC keeps exam results confidential. Examinees taking the computer test will receive their results at the end of their exam session. Those individuals testing with pencil and paper will be mailed their results within 30 days.

Some of the most popular NITC Certifications include Medical Gas Personnel (Installer, Inspector, Verifier, Maintenance, Brazing Process, and Instructor), STAR certifications (Mastery in HVACR, Plumbing, Fire Sprinklerfitting, and Steamfitting-Pipefitting), and Title 24 Registry.
